I am also analysing the purpose of the mirror in interior layout. In the following article, the mirror is viewed as something practical. There is also obviously a decorative purpose into the mirror. But sometimes these points may be forgotten.
Suppose there is a little room e.g. a small-sized bathroom. In this bathroom, the mirror is obviously practical. It is used by the guy for shaving for example, to wash teeth. But when a piece is so obviously functional as the mirror, then there are strategies to make the mirror even more decorative. I am saying here that in some way, it’s simpler to make something so practical as the mirror in this bathroom setting into something decorative. It is possible to aim to get a mirror with a portion of ornamentation or you can choose to get a certain kind of glass to your mirror.
But when a mirror is so obviously practical, it is possible to add mirrors that are more decorative in aim. You can have for example, mirrors in the foot level. You can have mirrors which just demonstrate the stomach level.
The mirror is ribbon:
In the living room, plenty of instances the mirror is place over the fireplace and if you think about it, there appears to be something decorative relating to it. It is decorative in the feeling that the mirror appears to be the major ornament. It is a central piece of decorative furniture and although its purpose is obvious, decoration appears to be the main purpose. If the major reason is decorative, then it is possible to increase the interior by employing other mirrors in a more practical setting and showing up the decorative purpose of this central mirror over the fireplace. Again within this living room setting, it is possible to show up the functionality and decorativeness of this mirror item by adding mirrors in foot level along one of the walls.
Another interior design idea is to set a folding mirror in the corner. . A kind of triptych of mirrors which fold inwards… Another idea is to get a mirror on one wall continuing into the other walls; Various effects may be used- e.g. two long rectangular cushions of equal size in the corners of every wall…or other the cushions do not need to be the exact same size at all. The mirror then is function and decoration. Think about the mirror as distance as a thing that creates distance.
The mirror is distance:
This is a well-known intention of a mirror. Whenever you have a large space e.g. a hall it is possible to use mirrors in various ways to produce more space and you can aim for this impact in tiny spaces such as an ordinary living room. Then the mirror may be used in such a way as to create the interior. This can be done when there are mirrors combined a complete wall. There may be constant mirrors along a wall or just long vertical or horizontal rectangles of mirrors. You may have a mirror, then background then a mirror again. If the room is square, the corners of this space should have some layout component. The corners of the rooms are in which the partitions ‘float’ and interior design effects may be used to highlight this region. The mirrors highlight in some way the central area however, the side corners may also be emphasized through items e.g. lampshades…
The mirror then is distance…and it’s function. . And a good interior design idea is to examine the mirror in a living room. If the mirror is all over the fireplace, then ask why it’s there. Can it be for function or decoration or a different motive or probably a mixture of those three. In a living room, you may be unintentionally using the mirror as a central decorative thing but you aren’t bringing out the complete effect. This may be because of the mirror itself or general bad interior layout planning to your room. In interior design, the intention of the room is an important idea. The issue of having a certain purpose to your room arises when you’re looking at your room and its own distance. The mirror must have a particular purpose and this purpose can be brought out through how the mirror or mirrors unifies with the colour tones in the room as well as the overall distance and other furniture of this room.
